Summary:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for assisting Operations and Engineering in building and documenting prototype through Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) systems.  The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will assist production personnel with daily build and troubleshooting, identify and implement improved processes through use of Lean Six Sigma and other improvement methodologies, recommend design for manufacturability improvements, design and implement tooling and test equipment and train assembly personnel.  Some of the Engineer’s time will be spent on the production floor working with equipment/ processes, production personnel, quality and engineering.

  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, quality standards, Lean Six Sigma and other improvement methodologies.
  • Transition optical based prototypes into full rate production
  • Design of fixtures for mechanical assembly of sub components which include lasers, optical, electronic and mechanical components
  • Design of test fixtures to be utilized in manufacturing production and test including environmental testing
  • Assist in the development, testing and qualification of new laser subsystems
  • Design automated test stations for use in performing complex optical alignments
  • Develop and implement manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process flows, routers and bills of materials
  • Assist technicians with Active Alignment of Lasers as well as Validation testing of Laser assemblies
  • Experience with optics and common test equipment used for measuring laser performance
  • Assist production personnel with daily troubleshooting
  • Work with designers to recommend changes for manufacturability
  • Training of assemblers and technicians to perform manufacturing and testing of complex electro-optical and opto-mechanical assemblies
  • Work closely with engineering, program managers and customers to insure that test plans and procedures cover all requirements and functions of the product
  • Support all non-conformance activities (MRB), from supplying the proper data to Engineers, drafting and implementing rework procedures to direct disposition of parts when appropriate
  • Assist Quality and Engineering with design and product qualifications and environmental testing
  • Demonstrated leadership skills while having the ability to be a team player
 
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in a manufacturing facility
  • Experience with optics and common test equipment used for measuring laser performance
  • Knowledge and experience with performance modeling and troubleshooting of laser systems
  • Self-Starter with the ability to work independently and as a collaborative team player
  • Strong organizational, presentation and customer relationship skills
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with imaging systems, range finders and LASER aiming
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player
  • Ability to effectively deliver a product within schedule and budget
  • Experience of testing to meet MIL-STD-810G requirements
  • US Protected Individual Status
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS in Engineering preferred
  • Familiarity with designing and modeling using SolidWorks, Zemax, Matlab
  • Familiarity with writing automation applications using LabVIEW
  • Familiar with embedded processors, FPGA, I²C, RS-232, and SPI interfaces
  • Experience working in an ITAR environment and a DoD cleared facility a plus
  • Experience with ISO 9000 and 9015 a plus
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems a plus
EDUCATION:  
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or engineering technology field
LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
  • Fluency in the English Language is required
COMPUTER SKILLS:  
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products: Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Visio and Project
TRAVEL
  • Some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected
