Summary:

The Sr. Optical Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the mechanical layout, design, documentation, assembly and test of hardware reliability and performance for U.S. Military products.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical layout for size and weight claims
  • Detail design including structural and tolerance analysis
  • The ability to incorporate engineering principles from other disciplines (electrical, optical, software, etc) to provide a comprehensive design to meet performance objectives.
  • Generation of engineering documentation including detail drawings, assembly drawings and BOMS
  • Assembly and test of prototype hardware
  • Production support
  • Routinely interact with vendors / suppliers and demonstrate awareness of industry resources/ standards
 
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  •   BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5 to 10 years of experience in opto-mechanical design
  •   Proficient with SolidWorks or equivalent Computer Aided Design tool
  •   Strong working knowledge of optical system design, assembly, test, spectral requirements, and precision mechanism design methods.
  •   Capability to manage multiple and changing priorities
  •   Practical hands on experience with mechanical assembly desired
  •   Solid verbal and written communication skills
  •   Strong organization, presentation and customer relationship skills
  •   Demonstrated leadership skills while having the ability to be a team player
  •   U.S. Protected Individual status required (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, asylee, refugee or temporary resident (as defined at 8 USC 1160(a).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
·         MS in Mechanical Engineering
·         Finite Element Analysis experience
·         Familiarity with Mil STD testing
·         Solid understanding of machining practices
·         Experience in designing products for harsh military and commercial environments preferred
·         Familiarity with working in an ITAR environment
 
EDUCATION:  
·         BSME or Equivalent
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
  • Fluency in the English Language is required
COMPUTER SKILLS:  
 
·         Mechanical CAD required – SolidWorks Preferred
·         Proficiency in MS Office Suite of programs, including MS Word, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel required
 
TRAVEL
·         Travel outside the local area and overnight may be required. Some of the travel is international.

  • While performing the aforementioned job duties, the employee mainly works in a professional office setting that is relatively quiet and has temperature control systems.
