Accounting Manager
 
Palace Business Solutions is seeking a candidate that can immediately contribute and make a positive change. We seek a results-oriented leader driven by constant improvements to play a key leadership role in the Finance organization.
 
The Accounting Manager reports directly to the VP of Finance in Santa Cruz, Ca and will co-manage the accounting team and other related functions. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and a team player with a strong working knowledge of system processes and internal controls. Must be willing to work at the detail level as well as at the manager level. Candidate should be comfortable managing people and multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
 
Long-term plans will require the organization to upgrade and standardize systems and processes based on best practices to be able to support the next wave of growth in an efficient and value-added manner. Key Responsibilities:
  • Co-manage and lead accounting and operational teams supporting GL, Purchasing, Cost Accounting, AR, Collections, AP and outsourced services
  • Coordinate month, quarter and annual close activities in a timely manner. Prepare, review, and approve account reconciliations and entries related to accruals, payables, payroll and fixed assets to ensure transactions are recorded properly in the general ledger
  • Provide daily leadership and guidance to the team using coaching and mentoring
  • Identify and implement scalable and efficient process improvements and automation to reduce time to close, improve accuracy, and provide more substantive information to ensure financial reports are accurate and timely issued
  • Partner with cross functional teams regularly to identify areas for improvement
  • Supports the VP of Finance in the management of all accounting activities, including but not limited to HR, payroll, risk management and benefits administration
  • Supports preparation and review of financial reports, variance analysis, monthly trends, actual vs budget, actual vs forecast, etc.
  • Supports integrity of the company's accounting system, financial report development and maintenance, and interfaces between other systems and general ledger
  • Develops, maintains and ensures ongoing compliance with accounting policies and procedures and internal control documentation. Participates in ongoing policy development.
  • Supports preparation of schedules and data requested by external tax advisors for corporate income tax returns and tax provision calculations
 
Skills:
  • 3-5+ years relevant accounting supervisory and management experience
  • Fast learner with ability to deal with technical and operational issues
  • Familiar with accounting software systems
  • Intermediate Excel skills; Proficient in other Microsoft tools (Outlook, Word)

  • Experience in office supplies and/or commercial furniture industry a plus
