TITLE:  Optical Engineer-Lighting 
PLANT / SECTION:   Design  Engineering
Under the direction of the Design Manager and Design Program Leader, design lamp optics for new exterior lighting projects.  The key responsibilities include developing high quality and cost effective products for the OEM automotive field that are government compliant and achieve customer satisfaction.
Execute the optical design and development of exterior lighting products from initial concept to production by utilizing CAD and CAE resources.
Communicate with internal project teams, external customers, and suppliers regarding the optical design of projects.
Provide optical design related guidance and technical advice to project leaders and designers for new product development and production projects.
Recommend and implement design changes to  products per simulation and testing results 
Ensure compliance to regulation requirements through robust product design.
Design and evaluate photometric testing, data acquisition, data analysis, and other evaluations for projects.
Investigate new concepts and integrate new light sources, new technologies, or new techniques into product design.  .
Execute delivery of technical information to the Customer, other company depts., and within Design.
Identify and negotiate solutions to technical problems with the Customer and other company departments, and within Design.
Support Design Engineers and Program Leaders.  Ensure compliance to quality management system requirements.
Support Planning and Execution
EDUCATION:  4 yr degree, B.S. in Engineering, physics,  or equivalent degree/experience
Minimum 3+ years of experience in optical design and/or photometry.  Experience in optical design and development within automotive parts manufacturing is preferred
Minimum 2+ years knowledge & skill – any CAD program but CATIA V5 preferred
Knowledge of lab setup, testing methods, and government requirements for automotive designs
Knowledge of exterior lighting preferred
Familiarity with Microsoft Office
Demonstrated communication, planning, and organizational skills
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Willing to travel: customer on-site location, out of town, overseas
Good attitude/creative/pro-active mentality/challenge-seeker

Optional Skills:
Additional CAD software (ex. NX, Solidworks, Autocad, etc…)
Knowledge of FMVSS/CMVSS and ECE Lighting Regulations
Knowledge of OEM Lighting Requirements and Best Practices
Knowledge of automotive test requirements
Knowledge of CAD quality requirements and procedures
