Sheet Metal Journeyman
 
*Must be a member of Local 9 Sheet Metal Workers
 
SUMMARY:   Provide total customer satisfaction through a relentless commitment to extraordinary quality, craftsmanship, professionalism, and safety standards.  Accept personal responsibility with regard to assigned tasks as well as the mentoring of apprentices.  Consistently promote the policies, principles, and core values of HPE while maintaining schedules, productivity goals, and overall project profitability.  
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Basic Trade Aptitude:
  • Read and interpret  blueprints, specifications, CAD documents, submittals  
  • Utilize professional knowledge, skills, and experience proficiently in system and product installation
  • Perform layout activities accurately for system, fixture, and equipment installations
  • Stay informed with regard to innovative new materials and methods
  • Perform testing of systems for code, specification, and contract compliance 
 
Assist Lead/Foreman:
  • Promptly communicate material and tool projection concerns to lead
  • Identify and report potential installation problems or concerns
  • Assist in the assessment and evaluation of apprentice skills
  • Contribute to strong project closeout
 
Assume Leadership for assigned work:
  • Develop “Big Picture Perspective” comprehension with regard to a project
  • Recognize the importance of maintaining project and activity schedules beginning with own tasks assigned
  • Develop organization skills beginning with  immediate work area
  • Provide direction and assistance for apprentices in your charge
 
Promotes Company Welfare and Stewardship:
  • Promote a positive learning environment in mentoring  and directing of apprentices
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in serviceable condition
  • Use materials and other resources conservatively to promote project success and profitability
  • Participate in  the orientation of new employees on your jobsite
  • Collect and retain recyclable scrap byproducts for procession through Company channels
  • Prevent theft of personal and Company property by promoting a secure work environment
  • Develop and maintain positive jobsite relationships among all craft workers and contractors
  • Understand that exceptional customer satisfaction is a core value and culture at HPE
  • Share innovative ideas for improvement with regard to new products and installation/productivity methods
 
Promotes and Maintains a Safe Work Environment:
  • Wear the proper personal protective equipment as required at all times
  • Report any unsafe conditions, near misses, or injuries promptly through the proper channels
  • Maintain a neat, clean, organized, safe work environment at all times
  • Promote, attend, and actively participate in all scheduled jobsite safety meetings and training
  • Lead by example with regard to jobsite safety
  • Accept responsibility for your own personal safety, the safety of co-workers, and liability exposure of the Company
 
Ensure HPE’s Pride and Quality:
  • Install all systems and products per code, specifications, submittals, and contract documents
  • Utilize CAD and other internal coordination drawings as intended
  • Provide applicable input promptly to maintain current “As-Built” record drawings
  • Perform testing of all rough-in installations as required and immediately provide record information to lead
  • Immediately report any substandard craftsman ship to lead
  • Perform to the best of your ability at all times, and take pride in both your work and your company

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General Construction and Procedural Knowledge:
  • Applicable construction standards including system  installation methods, procedures, and sequencing
  • Typical commercial project scheduling and flow of mechanical activities
  • Trade tools and equipment used for installations
  • Basic functions of Mechanical Systems
  • Applicable code, regulation, and certification requirements
  • Basic function of CAD and Total Station
  • HPE Safety & Quality program requirements and procedures
  • HPE organizational strategy, vision, mission, values, corporate structure, and related policies & procedures
  • Corporate and Jobsite “Chain of Command”
  • Proficient trade math knowledge
 
General Trade Skills:
  •  Perform basic system layout activities
  • Proficient soldering and brazing skills
  • Safe and proper use of hand and power tools
  • Product installation skills
  • Blueprint and submittal reading, interpretation, and application skills
  • Strong communication, organization, and people skills
 
General Personal Abilities:
  •  Follow and give meaningful instructions
  • Learn and apply relevant technology
  • Perform well under a variety of conditions and circumstances
  • Makes sound judgment and decisions relative to assigned job tasks and requirements
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 5 years trade specific, commercial construction experience
  • Applicable state, city, and/or county journeyman trade license as required
  • Other relevant trade specific certifications as required such as: med gas, fuel gas, uponor, etc.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Safety Training as required including “Safety Champion” and “OSHA 10 hour”
  • Safety Champion
  • OSHA 10 hour training
  • Additional HPE “Incidental Training” as required
