General overview
The alumni relations specialist is responsible for supporting implementation of an effective alumni program under the direction of the Alumni Relations senior supervisor, concentrating on promotion of alumni from the Rotary Peace Fellowship and on creating opportunities for Rotary Peace Fellow alumni to engage in Rotary service.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of various computer and Web applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; knowledge of Access or similar database program preferred)
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Research ability (primarily Internet based)
  • Ability to work in a volunteer-directed organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with Rotarians and program alumni from different cultural backgrounds, as well as with internal staff contacts, including management
  • Analytical capacity, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills
  • Ability to work rapidly with close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Firm commitment to provide excellent customer service to internal and external contacts
  • Project management experience – must be able to manage multiple priorities and work under time constraints
  • ​Initiative and creativity highly valued
  • Fluency in a second language desired
  • Multicultural experience highly desired
  • Member of own alma mater’s alumni association preferred
  • Assist with maintaining an overall alumni relations strategy for Rotary and promotion of alumni activities
  • Develop and implement specific tactics for Rotary Peace Fellow alumni engagement
  • Develop and implement strategy and tactics to link expertise held by alumni to support work on service projects and other mutually beneficial activities
  • Develop a communication strategy to Rotarians that supports promotion of the benefits of working with alumni
  • Maintain active relationships with individual alumni to understand their current professional and volunteer positions and their interest in working with Rotary and Rotary’s partners
  • Promote a sense of association among alumni
  • Collaborates with Rotary Peace Centers staff to advance the program
  • Support and promote alumni association activities
  • Identify distinguished alumni
  • Respond to requests for alumni information from staff and Rotarians as needed
  • Assist with maintenance and reports from the Alumni Database and CRM system as needed
  • Assist with the planning of alumni events, both regional and international, particularly Rotary Peace Symposia, preconvention and convention events, and other regional alumni events
  • Complete other tasks as assigned
Prior Experience
  • Three to five years of experience in a college or university alumni advancement office, volunteer service organization, or organization associated with promoting peace and conflict resolution
  • Background in peace and conflict studies preferred
  • Rotary alumnus preferred, but not required
Required: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent), with international/study abroad experience preferred

Maintains outside working contact with Rotarians, including Rotarian Action Group for Peace and other Action Groups, Senior Rotary Leaders, District International Service Chairs, Cadre of Technical Advisors, District Grants Chairs, Alumni Chairs, regional coordinators, district leadership, Rotary alumni, and alumni association leaders
