General Overview
The Art Director will manage a team of photographers and videographers to create best-in-class content marketing for internal and external audiences in support of Rotary’s strategic goals. You will partner with writers, editors, designers, UX, social media and producers to create multi-platform stories including longform videos, multimedia feature stories and podcasts that combine powerful storytelling with brand standards.  In addition, you build and maintain a global network of contributors whose vision reinforces Rotary’s brand on a global scale. You must have a sophisticated visual aesthetic, strong creative vision, an understanding of the digital space, and the ability to collaborate with others to create content reflective of Rotary's standards. 
 
Some projects will require quick turnaround times (newsroom/publishing experience desired), while others will focus on long term strategy. To be successful, you must thrive in a collaborative environment. You will report to the Executive Producer of Visual Media. 
 
You will have
  • Expertise in videography and photography within a marketing team, agency or media organization
  • Experience concepting and assigning branded imagery that is both compelling and story-driven.
  • An established network of global freelancers in photo and video and the connections required to grow it further. 
  • Prior experience in a newsroom or magazine, with excellent storytelling and visual judgement.
  • Experience recording and producing podcasts a plus.

You will be responsible for
  • Researching, developing, editing, and art directing video and photography content to support editorial style storytelling as well as global brand campaigns. 
  • Assigning and producing original videos, photo essays and other content for web and print platforms, manage budgets and work with freelancers in the field.
  • Collaborating with regional magazine editors to produce and highlight original content, as well as repurpose stories originating in regional publications for a global audience.
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships in the video/photo community (agencies, freelancers) with an eye towards building a network of global contributors.
  • Collaborating with Heritage Communications (archives) to build branded galleries of historically relevant content. 
 
Prior Experience
  • 10 years experience, with at least 3 years in management.
  • 2 years newsroom/magazine experience as a picture editor or photography art director (digital or print) or creative agency with a focus on content marketing.
  • Experience working internationally (preferred).
  • Comfortable with DAM software and best-practices in photography and video workflows.
Education
  • BA/BS in photography, graphic design, visual communications, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in languages other than English (particularly French, German, Urdu, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese) (preferred).
