General Overview
Rotary International is hiring a product owner on the to work on digital products that support the wide variety of projects that Rotary members are doing around the world. The candidate will own the existing tools including Rotary Showcase, Rotary Ideas and Discussion Groups, and will help evolve these tools or support replacement tools which will align with the strategic direction of the organization.
 
The product owner represents the interests of the business and is therefore responsible for prioritizing work for the product team and driving delivery of work on a daily basis. The product owner manages the backlog and works closely with team members to clarify questions developers may have regarding user stories, provide transparency to the team’s work and determine whether that work was delivered to customer satisfaction.
 
Under the direction of the Product Management team and the roadmap, the product owner will help to execute against the product roadmap.
 
The product owner will report to the Senior Director of Programs and Member Services, within the Programs and Member Services team, and will collaborate with the Product Management team within the Strategy, Enterprise and Evaluation group.

Specific duties
  • Develops a deep understanding of Rotary Ideas, Rotary Showcase and Discussion Groups.
  • Works with the Product team, Rotary Service and Engagement Manager and the Digital Engagement Specialist to develop and implement product roadmaps.
  • Conducts user feedback sessions and gathers feedback from stakeholders on an ongoing basis to clearly understand their needs and pain points.
  • Breaks down high level requirements (epics) into user stories for the development team.
  • Owns the backlog and works closely with product team to ensure that backlog is prioritized to deliver maximum business value.
  • Makes critical decisions regarding user interface, functionality and priority in the sprint; sign off to accept each user story during sprints.
  • Drives the development of test cases and work closely with stakeholders and the test team to implement testing.
  • Works with other product owners and managers to ensure consistent delivery of work across product lines.
  • Represents the business and engages internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participates in daily stands, team retrospectives and requirements sessions as needed.
  • Supports the Rotary Service and Engagement team, and in particular the Digital Engagement Specialist, with their needs related to Rotary Showcase, Rotary Ideas and Discussion Groups.
  • Responds to issues escalated by Digital Engagement Specialist, documenting issues and identifying appropriate course of action for resolving the issues.
  • Guides utilization of platforms for secretariat initiatives, such as Miles to End Polio and support Rotary Senior Leaders' efforts to achieve annual goals.
  • May work with external vendors on baseline defects and advocates for desired enhancements if applicable.
  • Serves as key liaison between business and Business Intelligence team regarding reporting needs.
  • Liaises on, supports and helps document financial management system changes that impact the portfolio of tools.
  • Coordinates and communicates with business on manual workarounds that support usage of the portfolio of tools.
  • Participates in training and documentation of deliverables.
  • Provides periodic status updates to business stakeholders and senior management.
  • Ensures synergy between activities and the RI Strategic Plan, Project Enhancement Initiative, Philanthropy, and Rotary Grants.
  • Serves as back-up for the Digital Engagement Specialist.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
 
Prior Experience
  • 3-5 years of professional experience.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment preferred.
  • Experience working with Jira desired.
  • Multicultural experience required.
 
Education
Undergraduate degree required.
