California Director of Operations
 
SAFEbuilt’s Director of Operations will oversee regional operations to deliver excellent service across the portfolio of solutions, in alignment with both our core values and our obligations to employees, clients, and the company.  This position has responsibility for reaching company regional-level goals and objectives.  This position requires powerful communication, time management, account management, and people management skills.  The position will report into the VP of Operations and have a strong municipal client focus.   The individual will be the primary client contact and interface for key accounts within their region.  This attractive opportunity offers up the chance to work with our energetic and creative sales & marketing and operations teams on a wide range of challenging assignments in the state of California and will be responsible for oversight of all California operations. The Director of Operations will need to acquire an in-depth understanding of company budgeting, spending, financial, business systems, human resource, and business development procedures as they relate to and impact of Community Development Operations.
 
Top Priorities for this role include:
 
Employee Engagement, Satisfaction and Culture.                                                                     
Actively engage employees in field offices across the region to share strategies, provide direction on regional priorities, and set expectations regarding outcomes.  Facilitate and cascade communications in a consistent, professional manner.  Partner as needed to ensure corporate functions are adequately supporting the needs of the region and escalate as needed when gaps exist.  Demonstrate corporate values and reinforce corporate culture in all facets of the role to empower employee satisfaction and success.
 
Client Engagement.                                                                                                                           
Engage client “influencers” on a periodic, proactive, and planned basis in support of and in alignment with State Managers. Influencers may include leaders or resisters in the client organization, elected officials, or other meaningful parties who influence buying decisions in regional markets. Consult with State Managers to develop strategies for client reference-ability retention, renewal and growth. Manage escalations as needed.
 
Service Delivery and Alignment.                                                                                                    
Work closely with local leaders and staff to set expectations and manage outcomes for service delivery performance. Perform cross-regional resource planning and identify ways to flex and leverage available resources to maximum benefit. Support the integration of new business, both organic and via acquisition. Align with and oversee best practice implementation in partnership with peers and the leadership team.
 
Financial Management.                                                                                                                  
Develop regional budgets in support of the business as needed to ensure regional operations have an appropriate level of investment to support operations. Develop mechanisms to track and manage financial and budget performance at a necessary level of detail to manage the business effectively. Introduce controls as needed. Ensure financial targets are achieved. Outline in detail any anticipated or actual variances to plan with the leadership team.
 
Continuous Improvement.
Set expectations and targets for targeted continuous improvement of key aspects of regional operations over time. Inspect plans, investments, efforts, and results from CI initiatives. Track, report and share progress across regions and with senior leadership as appropriate to demonstrate added value, increased efficiency, or margin impacts. Incorporate outcomes into company-wide best practice initiatives as appropriate.
 
Market Intelligence.                                                                                                                         
Develop and maintain market, competitive and regulatory intelligence for the region to inform decision making within the region as well as Operations-wide. Create mechanisms to capture and report insights to appropriate partners across all functional teams.

  • Employee Satisfaction COGS to Targets at Fault Claims
 
Responsibilities:
  • Develop strategies, programs and implementations in alignment with company objectives.
  • Develop and manage financial, and other operational, targets.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key municipal contacts.
  • Act as liaison for strategic partners for items including current staff, process, research on items, and new business development.
  • Direct new office development and implementation
  • Oversee implementation plan of a start-up operation
  • Work closely with sales & marketing and operations V.P.
  • Evaluate regional, state, and office-level operations:
    • Goals and objectives
    • Financial targets
    • Client satisfaction metrics
    • Trends that may impact operational efficiency
    • Conformance with laws/regulations
    • Staffing levels
  • Oversee strategic initiatives as outlined by Business Development and Leadership Team.
  • Review and coordinate regional business development efforts, proposals, etc.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with upper-level decision makers (councils, mayors, city managers, state associations).
  • Coordinate office, state, and regional-level reporting.
  • Oversee project plans and resource allocation for large projects and initiatives.
  • Drive profitability while extracting cost out of the region.
  • 40-50% travel required.
 
Education and Experience:
  • B.S or B.A. degree required.  Business, Engineering or Public Administration preferred.
  • Experience in managing municipal clients, engineering operations or large building development organizations preferred.
  • 10+ years of management experience required. 
  • Local government experience and contacts a huge plus.
