Engineering Inspector / Plans Examiner
SAFEbuilt company, is currently seeking a talented, experienced Engineering Inspector with Plan Review experience to support their Building Department Review Operations.  This position will provide grading and erosion control; parcel and subdivision map check; storm drain; NPDES review of storm water pollution prevention plans; standards urban storm water mitigation plans; water quality management plans; and erosion control plan reviews.  This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of assignments.  You’ll be a member of our highly respected building department team with a full complement of resources to support you and exciting projects to keep you challenged.
  • Civil plan review including grading and erosion control plan check; parcel and subdivision map check and storm drain plan check.
  • NPDES review of Storm Water; Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs); Standard Urban Storm Water Mitigation Plan (SUSMPs), Water Quality Management Plans (WQMPs) and erosion Control Plans.  Grading and other improvements plans are to be checked for compliance with applicable storm water and LID design requirements. 
  • Determine review fees, and authorize the release of approved documents for city permits.
  • Provide timely oral and/or written communication detailing design and/or construction deficiencies in plans and specifications.
  • Direct and participate in design coordination meetings regarding private development projects and city, state, and regional capital improvement projects in order to lead the development process, ensure timely approval and completion of projects, and resolve any problem areas.
  • Assist inspectors with difficult or unusual code compliance issues and answer questions from inspectors about plan review comments.
  • Cultivate, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with directors, managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support on assigned projects/assignments.
  • Experience/knowledge of grading and erosion control control, parcel mapping, NPDES / storm-water prevention, water quality and mitigation, erosion control. 
  • Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology
  • Interpretation of codes and ordinances in the field and ability to provide code compliant solutions
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are vital
  • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering preferred
  • Certified SWPPS Compliance Training
  • Certified, NPDES Compliance Training
  • 2 years plan review experience
