Behavior Support Specialist
Responsibilities Include:
The Behavior Support Specialist will be responsible for Providing expertise and implementing quality control measures to ensure quality service delivery that meets the Head Start Performance Standards, applicable federal and state laws and regulations and the outcome measures required by the agency.
  • Participate as a team member in the identification of social/behavioral problems.
  • Design, implement, and follow up on behavioral management programs for students to remediate behavioral and social problems.
  • Develop and maintain psychosocial and behavioral data on these students.
  • Assist other professionals with student/staff crisis intervention.
  • Plan and confer with the classroom teacher of these students as requested concerning any behavioral, social or personal problems affecting the students.
  • Assist with in-service activities regarding techniques for remediating behavioral, social or personal problems of students.
  • Participate in the referral process for students who require further evaluation and/or follow-up services to the appropriate personnel or community agencies.
  • Assist with case-management and team problem-solving with other behavioral specialists, agency personnel, and other appropriate professionals on a regular basis.
  • Actively support the vision and mission statement of Family Development Services.
  • Participate in Functional Behavior Assessments, identify areas of concern and formulate corrective action plan.
  • Uses a plan of instruction outlined in a child's IFSP/IEP/BMP.
  • Ensure that mental health and social-emotional concerns are noted in the children's files and followed up on with appropriate staff and parents.
  • Provide input at comprehensive staffing for children with mental health, social-emotional and behavior concerns and needs.
  • Attend staffing of other agencies when pertinent or requested.
  • Assist Mental Health and Assistant Mental Health Coordinator.
  • Submit monthly and other assigned reports to Mental Health Coordinator.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Specific Requirements
  • Must have a Bachelor’s in Social Work, Psychology, or related behavioral or human service field
  • Knowledge of behavior management principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of child development
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children and families
