Family Development Services Center Director will direct and supervise staff and activities of Head Start center to ensure integrated service delivery and improvement in the children's literacy, numeracy, language, cognitive, fine/gross motor skills; promote parental involvement and participation in Head Start classrooms and in training opportunities.
- Responsible for recruitment of children/families for center capacity.
- Maintains funded enrollment at their center throughout the school year.
- Conducts daily, weekly and monthly formal and informal observations in each classroom.
- Ensures in Head Start/Early Head Start classrooms that all required testing, screenings, height/weight measurements, etc. are completed in accordance with the Performance Standards and agency policies.
- Reviews and monitors facility budget.
- Authorizes purchases of instructional materials and teaching aids such as books, toys, and games designed to stimulate learning, and reflect many cultures and physical conditions.
- Provides on-going monitoring of the service delivery area to ensure compliance with the Performance Standards and licensing regulations.
- Implements, monitors, and administers disciplinary action when staff is in violation of agencies’ policies, procedures, union and non-union handbook, as well as union contract as applicable
- Documents staff performance issues and feedback on an ongoing basis to utilize as documentation to coach staff to better performance or into disciplinary action.
- Interviews and recommends hiring of teaching and center staff.
- Facilitates and works with parents to plan monthly parent meeting.
- Confers with parents regarding facility activities, policies, and enrollment procedures.
- Confers with teaching staff regarding children’s behavioral or learning problems, and recommends methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences.
- Reviews and evaluates facility activities to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Arranges medical attention for ill or injured child in accordance with parental instructions.
- Performs classroom teaching duties during absence of regular teacher.
- Generates in-kind match proportionate to families served (center capacity).
- Responsible for quality assurance and follow-up to ensure corrections of each classroom as related to assessment, literacy, and all other early childhood services.
- Reviews, analyzes, plans and conducts quality assurance on child outcome results during each of the fall, winter, and spring checkpoints for each classroom in the center each year.
- Communicates with children, staff, parents and the public in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Other Duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited college or university. A related field is defined as a program of study that includes successful completion of eighteen (18) credit hours in Early Childhood Education / Child Development.
- 1+ yrs management experience and experience working with children
- Strong computing skills using Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and maintenance of a good driving record
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work in classroom as needed, including standing, walking, stooping, crawling, sitting and other physical requirement of working with children.
