We are recruiting for a new part time position, Support Staff/Nap Time Buddy. We are providing an extra layer of care for our 6 weeks- 5 year old children. This is an opportunity to work with young children in a quality structured learning environment. Some children need assistance going to sleep, others don’t want to sleep but need a caring adult, a Nap time buddy” to engage in quiet activities with them. This is an opportunity to give back to the community and provide a positive model and build positive experiences for our most vulnerable children. Nap Time Buddies will be providing a great service to children and making a difference in the lives of children.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Sit with children during family style lunch prior to nap time, eat with them and engage with them in developmentally appropriate conversation.
Provide an extra helping hand in the classroom transitioning to nap time, during nap time to ensure that children are comfortable when sleeping and engaged in positive appropriate quiet activities when awake.
Assist classroom teacher in monitoring sleeping children by making sure that children are comfortable and safe during nap time.
Engage in quiet reading or appropriate activities with children who are not asleep.
Nap time buddies are never left alone with children, –a trained classroom staff person will be present in the classroom with the nap time buddy at all times
Assist children in waking up by using gentle strategies learned in training and help children prepare for remainder of the school day.
Share smiles, quiet laughter and great times with young children.
Education and/or Experience
Applicants must meet the following basic qualifications for consideration:
No experience working with children required
Ability to be gentle, patient, kind and consistently use a smiling face with children
For Head Start Nap Time Buddy: Must be at least 18 years of age; Ability to work with children ages 3-5, 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday
For Early Head Start Nap Time Buddy: Must be at least 21 years of age; Ability to work with children ages 6 weeks to 3 years old, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday
Ability to successfully pass: work history and professional reference background check, criminal history screen, sex offender registry, drug screens, physical and TB ( We will pay for these things for all qualified applicants)
Ability to stand, squat, get on floor, sit, talk, hear, see with or without reasonable accommodations
Ability to attend 15 hours of paid training during normal working hours
Applicants with the following qualifications are preferred:
High School diploma, Preschool setting CDA or college Early Childhood Education courses
Work experience working with children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old
