Summary of Medical Scheduler Job:
  • Follows physician template requirements for scheduling hospital inpatient and outpatient procedures
  • Fax physician schedules to the appropriate hospital facility to verify the date and time of patient appointments.
  • Enters scheduled clinic and procedure appointments in the computer following physician templates.
  • Enter all pertinent information related to patient care into computer in order that all staff have access to that information.
  • Enter all pertinent data related to patient insurance into computer.
  • Communicates efficiently with clinical staff in working with work-ins/add-ons, physician protocol, facility restrictions and the care of patients.
  • Communicates efficiently with inter-department staff on changes within the schedule.
  • Responsible for necessary precertification.
  • Interaction with insurance companies in order to verify information such as precertification number, group number, etc.
  • Review of patient information in the computer and add/update information as appropriate.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Medical Scheduler Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school graduate
  • Customer service skills and interpersonal skills are very important
  • One years' experience in a medical environment
  • Proficiency in use of computer and good typing skills
  • No evenings, weekends, or major holidays
