I. Summary
Senior Electrical Engineers work focuses on designing electrical solutions for new and existing complex service entrances, power generation systems, high rise design, mission critical applications, life safety systems, and other similar areas. This role entails leading the design and development of electrical engineering solutions, and intensive coordination efforts with other disciplines.  Much of time is spent mentoring other individuals, in review of engineering drawings, teaching of specific topics in the department, pushing innovative ideas for further design efficiency.
 
II. Essential Duties & Responsibilities 
Core Function
  • Perform engineering tasks and work with engineers and designers to produce projects in design.
  • Review electrical designs per QC/QA standards.
  • Assist CA representative in reviewing submittals and answering questions from projects in the field.
General
  • Develop working knowledge of miscellaneous office equipment technology such as phones, copiers, plotters, scanners and computers.

  • Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners.
  • Proactively communicate any concerns, problems, or technical decisions that impact the project. Offer solutions and value engineering where required.
Electrical Engineering
Excels at the following duties and responsibilities for several building types.
  • Understand complex electrical principals used in design.
  • Understand branch circuiting and panel schedule calculations including diversity calculations.
  • Create and understand all aspects of a single line diagram.
  • Motor connections and coordination with mechanical, plumbing and technology disciplines
  • Typical systems engineered at this level are single line diagrams, load studies and analysis, grounding, lighting, lighting controls, power devices, electrical distribution and emergency generation systems, fire alarm, lightning protection and life safety systems.
  • Understand grounding and bonding of all systems including separately derived.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the NFPA, NEC and other building codes.
  • Lighting controls documentation to include switching, dimming, photocells, motion sensors, DALI system design, and preparation of relay cabinet schedules.
  • Understand and analyze short circuit fault calculations and coordination studies.
  • Analyze lighting calculations and manipulate to obtain a required light level.
  • Create trainings to teach others tasks within the department.
  • Takes part in collaboration on projects to develop a plan for actions required to meet deadlines.
  • Reviews, performs and compiles HVAC energy compliance documentation using ComCheck, Title 24, FlaCom and other energy compliance software.
  • Understand to understand and apply basic building codes, life safety code, NFPA and the NEC.
  • Understand the risks associated with electricity and follow all safety precautions set forth.
  • Perform opinions of cost.
  • Perform detailed electrical surveys.
  • Research and prepare reports for feasibility studies, life cycle analysis, and other similar reports.
  • Able to write new electrical specifications.
  • Sign-off on prints as required by company QC/QA standards.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities 
There may be direct supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.  Studio directors may assign engineers, designers or co-ops to be under senior electrical engineer supervision.  Senior electrical engineers have an added supervisory responsibility of maintaining the health of the department by supervising the activities of the company’s electrical engineers and designers.

Approves engineering designs and/or program/project specifications of other engineers/design professionals to meet desired compliance with engineering principles, standards, statutes, codes, regulations and design.  Monitor and ensure program/project meets specification and design. V. Qualifications
Education 
Bachelor’s Degree (B.S) from a four-year university or equivalent experience is required.    
Professional Engineering license required.
LEED AP is preferred
 
Experience 
10+ years working in an MEP engineering consulting firm on multiple building types.

Proficient in AutoCAD / Design Master – Electrical or Revit and Visual / AGI32 lighting packages.
Proficiency in Easy Power or SKM preferred.
