I. Summary
Electrical Engineers work under general direction, applying their skills and expertise to generate solutions that require development or sustainment of new or improved techniques, procedures, or products. Responsibilities include assisting with planning, conducting, and evaluating approaches to meet project objectives in a timely, cost-effective fashion.
II. Essential Duties & Responsibilities 
Core Function
  • Perform engineering tasks and work with designers to produce projects in design. 
  • Assist CA representative in reviewing submittals and answering questions from projects in the field.
  • Develop working knowledge of miscellaneous office equipment technology such as phones, copiers, plotters, scanners and computers.

  • Able to delegate drafting information to electrical designers and coops when needed.
  • Preparation and modification of engineering drawings using computer-aided systems such as AutoCad or Revit. Modification includes complex drawing cleanup, in depth electrical calculations and electrical distribution setup.
  • Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners.
  • Proactively communicate any concerns, problems, or technical decisions that impact the project. Offer solutions and value engineering where required.
Electrical Engineering
  • Understand service voltages utilized and electrical principals used in design.
  • Understand branch circuiting and panel schedule calculations including diversity calculations.
  • Understand electrical system layout and connections well enough to delegate for drafting. Typical systems engineered at this level are lighting, and lighting controls, distribution layouts, power devices, electrical distribution and emergency generation systems, fire alarm, lightning protection and life safety systems.  An understanding of the NEC is required.
  • Perform electrical calculations such as voltage drop, fault current, diversity, etc.
  • Perform lighting calculations and manipulate to obtain a required light level.
  • Motor connections and coordination with mechanical, plumbing and technology disciplines
  • Develop sketches or schematics, layouts, details, and/or drawings as required.
  • Take company technical training to gain understanding of process and knowledge of field.
  • Create trainings to teach others basic tasks within the department.
  • Takes part in collaboration on projects to develop a plan for actions required to meet deadlines.
  • Performs and demonstrates lighting energy compliance using ComCheck, Title 24, FlaCom and other energy compliance software and provides supporting documentation.
  • Understand and apply basic building codes, life safety code, NFPA and the NEC.
  • Understand the risks associated with electricity and follow all safety precautions set forth.
  • Perform basic opinion of costs.
  • Perform detailed electrical surveys.
  • Research and prepare basic reports for feasibility studies, life cycle analysis, and other similar reports.
  • Able to edit specifications with assistance from senior engineers

III. Supervisory Responsibilities 
There may be direct supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.  Studio directors may assign electrical designers or electrical coops to be under engineer’s supervision.

Engineering Analysis
Identifies and plans for resources. Approves engineering designs and/or program/project specifications of other engineers/design professionals to meet desired compliance with engineering principles, standards, statutes, codes, regulations and design.
V. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (B.S) from a four-year university or equivalent experience is required.    
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate preferred with goal of obtaining a P.E. license.
            To be an Engineer in training requires passing of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Any previous consulting engineering or construction field experience is preferred.
Preferred similar co-op experience.

Computer Skills
Basic computing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS Access.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Design Master – Electrical, Visual or AGI32 and Revit is desired.
