MENTAL HEALTH WORKER (Live In)
Normal Work Days/Hours:   40 hours per week working overnight and every other weekend in a residential setting.
Location:  North Birmingham Home
 
Position provides individual care, instruction and supervision to residents in a Residential Program Services, as a liveā€‘in twenty four (24) hour a day basis.  Provide direct care to clients and is responsible for the orderly management of the home.
 
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
 
Provides direct client care to the residents of the home/training facility.
 
Monitors, supervises, and trains residents in daily/independent living skills.
 
Provides support services for the home and the residents.
 
Transport clients in accordance with schedule.
 
Completes required administrative and client related paperwork.
 
Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the home, property and vehicle.
 
Attend required staff training as directed by supervisor.
 
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Bachelor's degree in human service field. 
                                                           Or
Less than a bachelor's degree with one year's experience with a mentally handicapped population.
                                                          Or
Minimum of 320 hours of successful work experience with the agency in a "relief" capacity at a MI or MR facility.
 
Valid Alabama Driver's license and driving record acceptable to agency automobile insurance carrier for inclusion on agency policy.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
 
Knowledge of mental retardation and/or mental illness, as appropriate to Division.
 
Knowledge of programming and treatment modalities.
 
Ability to perform CPR and first aid and must become certified in both.
 
Ability to perform tasks independently.
 
Ability to plan, organize and develop client activities.
 
Ability to supervise the completion of client activities, chores, etc.
 
Ability to understand programmatic aspects and participates in implementing client program plans.
 
Knowledge of medications, dosages and side effects.
 
Knowledge of community resources.
 
Knowledge and skill in the area of household management including meal preparation/planning, nutrition, housekeeping and maintenance.
