PSM Engineer

Apply engineering theory and principles to problems of industrial layout or manufacturing production. Focus will be on design codes and regulations that support the Engineering and Safety/Environmental Departments.  Design codes include applicable codes for valves, piping, storage tanks, relief devices, pumps, boilers, instrumentation and controls, and pressure vessels (typically ASME and API codes).  Regulations include local/city/federal regulations and supporting the Safety/Environmental department with OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910), particularly Process Safety Management (29 CFR 1910.119), among other parts.

  • Work with Operations Engineers and the Engineering Manager to ensure projects and process modifications are in accordance with the applicable regulations and design codes.
  • Work with the Safety/Environmental Department to satisfy OSHA and Process Safety Management (PSM) regulatory requirements.
  • Complete Management of Changes for plant modifications required by the PSM regulation at all Hero BX facilities.
  • Support Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) at all Hero BX facilities.
  • Support PSM audits and re-validations at all Hero BX facilities.
  • Provide regulatory, code, and technical input into the Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Mechanical Integrity Programs at all Hero BX facilities.
  • Understand and utilize the PSM information (ie. process equipment, materials of construction, relief design, limits of operation, process chemistry, process flow diagrams, chemical Safety Data Sheets) at all Hero BX facilities.
  • Own/manage the regulatory and design bases for processes at all Hero BX facilities.
  • Recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Prepare charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization.
  • Evaluate data and write reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Manage projects through the supervision of contractors.
  • Other special projects as assigned.
Employment Standards:
  • Education – BS in Engineering or related field required. Mechanical or Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Experience  - 7-10 year’s experience in a manufacturing environment (as a Design Engineer or position with relevant regulation/code experience).
