Hours and Compensation: Full time, Monday - Friday, Competitive pay based on experience.

Summary:  Operations Manager will plan and direct the work and maintenance activities and resources necessary for producing biodiesel in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications. Assist the Plant Manager in any manner he sees fit.

  • Provide a safe working environment by establishing the proper infrastructure (processes, procedures, training, accountabilities, records, etc.) to ensure that personnel and plant safety are managed effectively and in compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Training Operations staff to perform jobs both effectively and safely.
  • Work closely with Plant Manager and Operations Engineer to plan, budget and execute projects for continuous plant improvement.
  • Work closely with Director – Environmental Health & Safety to ensure all personnel understand the requirements of plant environmental permits and applicable regulations. Establish the infrastructure to ensure compliance with all commitments and requirements.
  • Work with Director – Environmental Health & Safety to ensure compliance with PSM, including reviews and updates, MOC’s and drawing updates.
  • Manage Shipping & Receiving Technicians to ensure all crews have properly skilled and trained employees.
  • Work closely with Lead Operations Technicians to manage each crews’ personnel conflicts, training needs, and overall effectiveness.
  • Communicate with Logistics Manager to establish shipping and receiving needs and schedule.
  • Patrol work areas to ensure proper plant operation. 
  • Work with Operations Engineer to ensure all maintenance spare parts are stocked and available.
  • Order chemicals as needed to ensure proper inventory. Including methanol, sodium methylate, MSA, acids and any other dry chemicals as needed.          
  • Oversee shipping and receiving staff and communicate as needed with Logistics Manager.   
  • Other duties as assigned

Employment Standards:
  • Education – Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred. 5+ years of related work experience may substitute for the degree;
  • Experience – 5+ years manufacturing plant operations experience required. Experience in the biodiesel industry (or related experience providing equivalent knowledge) preferred.
