POSITION(S) REPORTING TO PROGRAM MANAGER: None
 
STATUS: Exempt
 
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Director of Business Development provides high-level management, business oversight and development of the MDS Programs and initiatives in keeping with the strategic plan and objectives set forth by the MDS Officers and International Executive Committee (IEC).
 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (Minimum of 37.5 hours/week):
  1. Identify and develop strategic business plans and anticipate future growth opportunities for MDS;
  2. Assess the needs of the MDS Programs, anticipate and identify areas of need and implement necessary changes;
  3. Identify and develop relationships with relevant Foundations;
  4. Identify and develop funding proposals - leveraging support opportunities for the Society’s programs and initiatives.
  5. Liaise with and provide support to MDS Programs, including but not limited to: Rating Scales Program, MDSGene Tool, and Industry Education;
  6. Research market trends to identify potential growth opportunities and implement necessary changes;
  7. Support the Executive Director and assigned committees, task forces, sections or other workgroups, as needed to achieve objectives, including, but not limited to, development of reports, budgets, agendas, minutes, timelines, action plans, correspondence, and other presentation materials;
  8. Oversee administrative processes performed by MDS support staff including administrative procedures such as cash sheets, check requests, invoices, booking staff travel, drafting and distributing staff memos, etc.;
  9. Work with third party vendors as needed, develop RFP’s based on need;
  10. Internally work with other MDS staff to most effectively meet and develop program goals;
  11. Other duties as assigned.
 
AMOUNT OF TRAVEL REQUIRED:
Approximately 2-3 weeks per year including some international travel; some early morning/evening and weekend work required.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree, previous association management experience and familiarity with nonprofit boards of directors preferred. Project management, business administration or law experience desired. Excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills required. Prior scientific experience or experience working directly with medical professional is desirable. Word processing and spreadsheet skills in MS Office environment essential.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. may be required.
