Day Program Direct Support Professional / DSP            
HOURS:   Full-time 8:30 a.m. -4:30 p.m. & Part-time 10:00 a.m. -1:45 p.m.
 

JOB SUMMARY:
The Direct Support Provider works under direction of the Day Program Manager to provide personal care and assistance to adults with severe to profound developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. This job primarily focuses on interacting with the individuals we serve to provide a creative, safe and loving environment filled with possibilities and choices. The Direct Support Provider will not only provide personal care, but will fully express interest in the lives of the participants through their service and various engagement activities

JOB DUTIES:
  • Provides active care for all participants.  Engages with the participants daily, encouraging them to participate in activities/events/community outings.  Completes all required documentation as required by Medicaid, waiver rules, and/or licenser standards, including program implementation plans, social/emotional  plans, daily flow sheets, and other forms as needed.
  • Ensures that all participants’ physical, emotional, medical and social needs are met.  Monitors and stays alert to needs and condition of residents at all times.  Notifies Manager and/or nurse of changes in participants conditions. 
  • Protects participants from physical, mental, and verbal abuse, and ensures the protection of  both individual and human rights.
  • Reports any incidents adversely affecting the health and safety of the participants to the manager immediately.  Reports pertinent medical information such as seizure activity, emesis,  or unusual signs or symptoms which may indicate illness to the nurse. 
  • Ensure compliance with participants Individual Service Plan, including but not limited to, range of  motion, implementation of individual programs, encouraging engagement in social events. 
  • Assists residents in eating meals appropriately as defined on individual meal cards and according to Resident’s IP.
  • Provides transportation for participants to and from the Day Program and for community outings. 
  • Participates in and stays current with training required, such as annual training and First Aid/CPR
  • Assists in cleaning of the building and equipment as directed/needed. 
  • Understand and implement appropriate emergency and evacuation procedures for any life threatening situations as well as scheduled drill exercises.
  • Demonstrates competence in safe lifting, positioning, physical assistance to and transferring of residents.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required. 
  • Other related duties as may be required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.  High school graduate or GED.  Must be able to read and write with good comprehension.   Effective communication skills, both orally and written are essential.         Must have prior work experience working with individuals who have developmental disabilities.  Job involves continuous bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, carrying, and grasping.  Must be able to continuously lift 50 lbs. independently or with another staff up to 120 lbs.   General physical agility required.  Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, developing and maintaining positive working relationships with co-workers.  Good attendance and punctuality are essential.
