Volunteer Coordinator 
20 Hours per week (some evening and weekend hours required)
 
St. Joseph Home creates a home for adults and children with developmental disabilities who have complex support needs and use a wheelchair for mobility. The Home, a non-profit ministry of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, offers a creative, loving environment for those in the residential, respite programs, and day programs. JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Community Advancement, the Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for growing, solidifying, and maintaining volunteer efforts at St. Joseph Home (SJH). S/he will work as part of the Advancement Team facilitating engagement between volunteers and all SJH departments and lines of service, creating a welcoming culture for learning and serving. The ideal candidate for this role is an outgoing and collaborative self-starter who believes deeply in the value that volunteers can and do bring to our community and relishes the opportunity to be the bridge between volunteers, staff, and those that we serve. 
 
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
 
Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination
  • Recruits volunteers and interns to SJH through a variety of methods
  • Assists in the growth of internal understanding regarding the benefit and appropriate utilization of volunteers such that they are embraced by all staff
  • Keeps a pulse on internal needs and requests ongoing
  • Recruits and matches volunteers to these internal needs and requests
  • Builds and consistently maintains a dynamic volunteer database
  • Processes all volunteer requests and applications
  • Interviews and assesses volunteer candidate fit and readiness
  • Places volunteers in appropriate and needed roles based on skills/interests and availability
 
Volunteer Engagement and Training
  • Leads regularly scheduled volunteer orientation for new volunteers prior to placement
  • Designs and conducts trainings for active volunteers at regular intervals
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of volunteer engagement and program goals
  • Provides cutting edge, innovative training specific to the field of developmental disabilities
  • Maintains regular volunteer appreciation efforts
  • Maintains ongoing volunteer communications
  • Maintains processing of all volunteer paperwork per licensure rules and regulations
 
Committee Membership
  • Attends the Board’s Advancement Committee
  • Serves as point person for volunteers on 5K and Golf Committees
 
Clerical/General Administrative
  • Responds to routine emails, phone calls, etc.
  • Makes copies, print documents, etc.
  • Files paperwork
  • Participates in various staff and committee meetings and trainings as required
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Skills/Specialized Knowledge/Abilities
  • Calm, organized, patient, diplomatic, and confident demeanor in working with staff, individuals we serve, volunteers, and donors
  • Comfortable relating to all levels of staff and community partners including many different personality types
  • Advanced attention to detail and accuracy in all work
  • Intermediate ability to prioritize wide-ranging work load and work independently
  • Attention to the highest levels of confidentiality
  • Advanced ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to a wide range of audiences, including presentation and facilitation skills
  • Exercises good judgment, diplomacy, and objectivity in order to effectively and appropriately make decisions
  • Current driver’s license with fewer than 6 points and mode of transportation required
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Education/Experience
  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of demonstrated experience in related profession
