Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Costing Specialist is responsible for providing product cost accounting and analysis at our manufacturing facilities. This position is primarily responsible for preparing standard cost for planning, budgeting and forecasting purposes; recording actual costs for period end close; variance analysis; and providing insights to determine savings opportunities.  The Costing Specialist will also work closely with Commercial Finance Business Partner to provide estimated costs to support financial feasibility of innovation and renovation launches.
Role and Responsibilities
  • Planning, studying, and collecting data to determine product costs such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor
  • Analyzing changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on product cost
  • Analyzing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
  • Recording cost information for use in controlling expenditures
  • Making estimates of new and proposed product costs
  • Providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services
  • Maintaining the Cost Accounting System
  • Assisting in Period end close of the General Ledger
  • Reconciling finished goods inventories
  • Ensuring compliance and integrity with company Internal Control policies and SOX documentation
  • Explaining financials and reserves to internal and external audit
  • Ensuring that all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial accounting activities are completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets, lending technical and analytical expertise for the development of labor efficiencies, rates, overhead and raw materials
  • Involved in cost and inventory controls the company has in place, including physical inventory counts and cycle count programs as applicable
  • Reviewing financial data for accuracy, correctness, and completeness
  • Documenting policies and procedures, and assist with cross training as required
Qualifications and Educations Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting
  • Professional designation (CPA or CGA) preferred, or at a minimum working towards a designation
  • Minimum of 2 solid years of Cost Accounting in a Manufacturing Environment, preferably in a CPG
  • Must have a strong Cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles
  • Experience working with engineering, production and manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards
  • Experience with sophisticated ERP systems
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, PowerPoint and e-mail required with advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to work with large volumes of data and identify the most critical points
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate financial information within an organization; both to finance and to operations
  • Self-motivated individual who will drive process improvements where needed
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team coupled with the ability to multi-task in a fast- paced environment with competing priorities
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work
