Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Reporting, the Manager, Technical Accounting is responsible for being a key resource for complex, non-recurring technical accounting issues in accordance with US GAAP. This includes analysis for new transactions proposed and/or entered into, assisting with purchase price allocations for acquisitions, proactively identifying and evaluating upcoming new accounting developments and their impact on the company, as well as providing day to day advice on accounting policies and best practices. This role works closely with accounting and operational staff across the global organization, including USA, UK, Australia, Portugal, Chile and Canada.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Prepare / review accounting memos for transactions including investments, business combinations, joint venture arrangements, financing arrangements, revenue recognition
  • Prepare / review accounting analyses for complex accounting matters including impairment analysis, new standard adoption
  • Prepare / review journal entries and SEC disclosures for complex accounting matters
  • Review agreements and provide recommendations to legal and M&A teams for proposed transactions to assess accounting impact
  • Prepare purchase price allocations for business combinations, including coordination with third-party valuators and external auditors
  • Assist with conversion of acquired entities from local GAAP to US GAAP, including assessment of accounting policy alignment
  • Develop working relationships across business to become the ‘go to’ person with respect to complex accounting issues
  • Provide day-to-day advice to controllers and finance teams on accounting policies and best practices
  • Communicate complex, technical accounting concepts and issues to non-technical individuals and teams
  • Proactively identify and evaluate new and/or potential accounting pronouncements that may impact the company, including determining the impact on business results and related disclosures

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • CPA or CPA, CA designation
  • Minimum of 4 years public accounting and/or public company experience
  • Strong understanding of and experience with US GAAP
  • Familiarity with other GAAP standards preferred (e.g. IFRS, UK GAAP, other local GAAP)
  • Experience with SEC reporting preferred

Other Qualities

  • Strong communication skills appropriate for all levels of business. Must be able to communicate confidently (verbal and written) with finance and non-finance senior executives and business leaders (e.g. controllers, operations, legal, M&A teams)
  • Experience working with global individuals with different time zones, cultures, etc.
  • Ability to see how technical accounting issues affect the broader organization and develop meaningful and practical recommendations for the business
