Reporting to the Director, Corporate Reporting, the Manager, Financial Reporting is responsible for the accounting for complex accounts monthly (e.g. investments, joint arrangements, business combinations, cash flow proof) as well as the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements under US GAAP for SEC filings. This role will also perform technical accounting research for proposed transactions, standard adoptions, and other ad hoc analysis as required. This role works closely with accounting and operational staff across the global organization, including USA, UK, Australia, Portugal, Chile and Canada and is expected to be able to anticipate, address and resolve any accounting issues that arise, working closely with senior management to come up with solutions in a timely and effective manner.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and financial statement disclosures for complex accounting matters including investments, joint arrangements, business combinations, cash flow proof
  • Manage the preparation of the full external reporting process, including annual and quarterly financial statements and notes filed in Forms 10-K and 10-Q
  • Prepare / review supporting schedules for quarterly and annual financial statements, ensuring reasonability and review/approvals for SOX compliance
  • Review consolidated results and follow-up with divisional finance teams on variances and issues as required
  • Review quarterly earnings release, including critically assessing executive and investor information
  • Prepare quarterly financial statement disclosure checklist and review XBRL tagging
  • Coordinate with the legal, operations and other teams to consolidate required information for the management, discussion and analysis (MD&A) and proxy
  • Prepare and maintain the quarterly financial reporting calendar, including coordinating with external auditors and executives from the finance, legal and investor relations teams
  • Identify and implement process improvements in the month-end / quarter-end close process to ensure it is performed accurately and on a timely basis
  • Prepare / review accounting memos for transactions, including investments, business combinations, joint arrangements, revenue recognition, lease accounting
  • Work closely with the Manager, Technical Accounting to ensure complex and non-routine transactions are accounted for in accordance with US GAAP and appropriately disclosed

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • CPA or CPA, CA designation
  • Minimum of 5 years combined public accounting and public company experience
  • Strong understanding of and experience with US GAAP
  • Experience with SEC reporting preferred

Other Qualities

  • Strong communication skills appropriate for all levels of business. Must be able to communicate confidently (verbal and written) with finance and non-finance senior executives and business leaders (e.g. controllers, operations, legal, M&A teams)
  • Experience working with global individuals with different time zones, cultures, etc.
  • Ability to see how technical accounting issues affect the broader organization and develop meaningful and practical recommendations for the business
  • Exposure to Active Disclosure/Workiva an advantage
