Reporting to the General Manager, the Extract Manufacturing Manager oversees all activities related to the extraction and refinement of cannabis oils, and the manufacturing of extract-based products. The Extract Manufacturing Manager will hire and manage a team of Extraction Supervisors and Extraction Technicians.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop and document procedures for extraction processes including: Extraction of cannabis essential oils using solvents, Distillation, Winterization, Refinement, Purification, and Manufacturing of extract-based products
  • Lead the effort for specification, sourcing, and commissioning of new extraction and manufacturing equipment
  • Recruit and hire High Park’s extraction team. Maintain staffing levels and develop operational stability with a focus on strategic redundancy and succession planning
  • Schedule multiple shift labor force to ensure that refined extracts and extract-based products are manufactured on-time, and produced to strict quality standards
  • Ensure the effective execution of goals, targets and objectives with established company policy, procedure and requirements (Safety, Quality, Compliance & KPI’s)
  • Identify areas for waste reduction and process flow improvements
  • Ensure employees are working safely, and equipment is in proper repair
  • Monitor use and inventories of extraction chemicals and supplies, maintain appropriate supply levels
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Degree in a related scientific or engineering field
  • Advanced cannabis (or other botanical) extraction expertise is preferred
  • Experience in related extraction industries including but not limited to petrochemical or refineries is an asset
  • At least 5 years’ experience managing a lab and providing leadership to 5 or more employees
  • Excellent knowledge of lab techniques, terminology, equipment and materials
  • Knowledge of process engineering and ability to read P&ID, shop drawings, service manuals, etc., in order to help troubleshoot equipment 
  • Must possess excellent communication skills for liaising and communicating with internal departments
  • Able to interface directly with cross functional teams
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Strong math and computer skills, including ability to create and interpret data
  • Must be accessible after hours and on the weekend, either over the phone or on-site, to provide support in case of any issues
  • Experience working under GMP
