Job Specifics:

The Flight Instructor (Simulator) is directly responsible to the Manager Flight Operations Training. They are representatives of management and must be thoroughly knowledgeable in the EMB-145 aircraft. The applicant must complete the Instructor training as required by the Trans States Airlines’ training program.


The applicant must be highly knowledgeable of the appropriate portions of the company GOM, SOP, OPS SPECS, AFM, WOP, 14CFR 61, 91, 121, 49CFR and NTSB 830, company issued memos or bulletins, FAA policies safe operating procedures and or any other information that may assist him/her in performing their duties.

The applicant must:

a. Hold the airman certificates and ratings, except medical certificate, required to serve as a pilot in command, in operations under 14CFR 121;

b. Have satisfactorily completed the appropriate training phases for the airplane, including recurrent training, that are required to serve as a pilot in command, in operations under 14CFR 121;

c. Have satisfactorily completed the appropriate proficiency or competency checks that are required to serve as a pilot in command, in operations under 14CFR 121;

d. If serving as a required crewmember, must hold a Class I or Class II medical certificate as appropriate;

e. Have satisfactorily completed the applicable training requirements of the FOTM1 and 14CFR 121.414 and

f. Flight instructors who have reached their 65th birthday, or who do not hold an appropriate medical certificate, may function as flight instructors, but may not serve as pilot flight crewmembers in operations under this part.

Duties, Responsibilities & Authorities

The Flight Instructor’s (Simulator) primary duties, responsibilities and authorities will include the following:

a. Provide each student under his/her supervision a safe and positive training environment.

b. Maintain adherence to Trans States’ training program.

c. Work closely with the Manager Flight Operations Training to assure efficient utilization of simulator flight time. Keeping him/her advised of the progress of students that may need additional training.
