Zoo Educator
The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is currently seeking a Zoo Educator.  This position will be involved in all aspects of the Education Department including program design and execution.  The daily routine will include teaching, relationship building, program development, animal handling, record keeping, and housekeeping.  This position interacts with students, school professionals, zoo guests and volunteers on a daily basis.
Create and implement school programs to connect guests to nature and inspire actions on behalf of animals in the wild. Functions as primary advocate for opportunities geared towards students and teachers.  Promote a positive culture of innovation, empowerment and collaboration to meet the Zoo’s mission. 
A strong background in biology, zoology and/or life science is required.  A four-year degree in a related field is preferred. Previous teaching experience with children in an informal setting (such as a zoo, museum, nature center, parks department, etc.) is preferred.  Qualified candidates will be outgoing team-players, able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, flexibility, creativity, and an ability to interact positively with a variety of personalities and with a variety of ages.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time, must be able to traverse Zoo grounds on foot must be able to bend, squat, sweep and lift 40 lbs. without difficulty. Must be able to talk for long periods of time in front of public audiences and must be able to work in adverse weather conditions including heat, humidity, cold and rain. A valid driver’s license is required.
