GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Program Director, and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, the Counselor is responsible for the direct supervision of program participants in a seasonal camp setting. The programs at Camp Ernst (for children ages 6-15) combine safety, creativity & good, clean fun and include horseback riding, nature, hiking, archery, fine arts, crafts, swimming, boating, a water slide, high ropes course, sports, leadership activities, spiritual development and so much more! Camp Ernst strives to promote positive character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in young people through the healthy development of spirit, mind, body and friendship. This is a seasonal position for summer 2019.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise program participants in ranch & camp programs.
  • Plans and implements ranch activities that involve caring for horses on the camp property during the week of camp.
  • Maintains safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to ACA standards, medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintain positive relations with parents and other staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, boating, camping, songs, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games.
  • Current state approved First Aid certification must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Current state approved CPR-Child certification must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Current immunization record, including tetanus vaccination.
  • YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training certification must be completed prior to the beginning of the camp program.
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal
SALARY RANGE: $140 - $200/week, stipend
