As a structural engineer, your job is to design the framework that holds a building or structure together. You must make sure it's strong and flexible enough to withstand stresses and strains over its lifetime.  You will be a member of the Engineering Department and report to the Vice President of Engineering.  Your key duties and responsibilities are outlined below.
The above duties are the main responsibilities of the role.  It is likely that other work will be required in supporting the growth of the business and that the role will develop over time to suit Compass’ changing needs. 
  • Field Inspections
  • Performing structural calculations, modeling and analysis;
  • Preparing contract drawings and specifications;
  • Estimating construction costs;
  • Reviewing shop drawings and erection procedures;
  • Performing construction administration duties;
  • Maintaining project records;
  • Performing project administration.
This role includes a maximum of 10% travel in the continental United States.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil or structural engineering; Professional engineering license with an emphasis in structural engineering desired.
  • 5-10 years of experience in building related structural design.
  • Experience with one or more mainstream structural analysis and design programs such as:  Tekla, SAP 2000, RAM, STAAD.  Tekla is preferred.  Awareness of the NBS specifications, Oasys GSA analysis software and Autodesk Inventor.
  • Tekla Structures standard and Tekla structural designer.REVIT and AutoCAD proficiency, Inventor a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the IBC Codes
  • Competence with use of Microsoft Office:  Work, Excel, Outlook and Calendar.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Competence in working on small and medium size projects and designing structural elements in steel and concrete.
  • Technical Expertise – to keep up to date with the CPD requirements with the IStructE, to get it right the first time, to explore new design concepts and develop quality solutions that are interesting as well as effective.
  • Financial Reporting – Regular review of the project budgets and report to the project managers on their progress. 
  • Enthusiastic attitude.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team and exercise independent initiative.
