Overall: Provide accurate manufacturing quotations through a traceable, formal quotation process in order to establish product costing.
–Evaluate RFQ from the customer to determine the steps needed to cost.This includes the potential use of outside vendors, defining the process steps, assigning equipment.
–Perform a process line up in order to understand and cost tooling
Assess assembly steps if needed for cost effectiveness with consideration of RFQ volumes. Change the estimates if and when customer modifies RFQ.
–Consider AJR ability to manufacture or suggest alternatives.Consider optimum manufacturing process to be the most cost effective. –Process all RFQ considerations through the AJR costing system for accurate pricing. Produce reports as needed for sales/ management review.
–Advise and consult with Sales, along with VP of Business Development of final pricing in response to the RFQ as required based on the volume/ complexity/ nature of the product.
Perform Prototyping quotes as required.
Reporting Relationships: Reports Directly to VP- Business Development and works with other Cost Estimators. Interacts with other Departments such as: ENG, Sales,Purchasing, Production, Toolroom.
Technical Know-how/Qualifications: A strong High School education to Associates Degree in Technology and/or Engineering. Tool and die designing (preferred) or tool and die making experience. Manufacturing experience. New Product Development Experience. Strong math skills including trigonometry and geometry. Experience in various facets of Manufacturing, including:
- Single hit

Familiar with a Standardized quoting system. Familiar with various industry costing structures.
Incumbent must exhibit attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Problem Solving: Reviews multiple options for routing and costing in order to ascertain the best processing option (using costing system). Integrating somewhat complex variables in order to determine optimum forms of production and pricing. Meets with Sales and Eng to discuss options for non-standard jobs or complex jobs. These occur monthly as requested by Sales and Estimating teams.
Human Relations Skills: Regularly communicates directly with suppliers or AJR purchasing dept, to get quotes on processes outside of AJ Rose manufacturing capabilities. May need to gain their support and immediate action especially when time is constrained. Must interact with sales, engineering and or purchasing to clarify part print information and/or request missing information.
Breadth of Control: Experience in the process allows incumbent to assess various routing and pricing options. Past history of jobs quoted is often used as reference for new and similar RFQ. Uses production job run history reports to verify how well the part ran previously. Uses Production rate sheets and specifications from the internal library. VP of Business Development assigns quotes and discusses options.
Incumbent recommends final quote methods and options. Attends job release meetings to review the final release. May visit vendors or attend customer meetings.
Engineering manager and VP of Business Development review final quotes before release.
Accountability: Quotes are often complex and errors or inaccuracies may occur. The incumbent is accountable for the timeliness and accuracy of any Quote he or she may be submitting. The quote should be checked at several points along the way. The incumbent’s judgement weighs heavily into the pricing response to the customer and therefore in the potential award of new business or continuing business.
