Scope of job:  assists tool room workers in operating metal fabricating machines, performing tasks as instructed

  • Lifts, moves, clamps and bolts dies and fixtures on machines, using hand-tools
  • Lubricates, cleans and maintains tool room equipment
  • Helps lift and position work pieces
  • Cleans machine
  • Inspects tool for wear and broken or non-functioning
  • Compares work piece with prints and measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications
  • Places work pieces into heating furnace or preheat work pieces, using hand torch
  • Disassembles and cleans dies using cleaning solution, brushes and rags
  • Sharpens dies and punches
  • Reassembles tooling back to proper functioning status
  • Makes shims to maintain existing or newly re-engineered timing of assembled tooling
  • Performs other customer driven or product driven duties as assigned by Supervisor

In Training:
  • To maintain work log for tooling worked on to develop maintenance and problem history
  • To diagnose problems concerning piece part or manufacturing capability of die
  • To repair detail components (that do not have replacement details available) for the following:  lathe, mill, grinder, drill press and heat treat
  • To learn proper maintenance practices of all details of tooling:  polishing, stoning, redressing forms and contours
  • To learn to operate specialized tool room equipment:  Od-Id grinder, CNC lathe, Mills, Jig grinder and E.D.M., as needed

  • Blueprint reading
