Scope of job: Follows standard procedures and operating manuals to effect repair, maintenance and diagnosis of mechanic problems in capital equipment and facilities.

Reports to:  Maintenance Manager or Supervisor


Formal Education:  High school or GED plus formal training in

                        Hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems
                        Conveyor systems
                        Blueprint reading
                        CNC Controls
                        Welding and fabricating
                        OSHA Basic
                        Lock-out tag out procedures
                        Confined space entry procedures
                        Safe use of hand and electrical tools


  • Analytical approach to Effective planning and organization skills
  • Able to work without direct supervision
  • Mechanical aptitude at a high level; able to conceptualize mechanical devices
  • Safety-first approach to work
  • Communication skills to obtain and receive information
  • Math aptitude for basic mathematics, fractions, decimals and metric system
  • Mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment of no less than three years.


  • Carries tools and equipment to and from storage and working area
  • Cleans machines with sandpaper, solvent and wiping rags to prepare surfaces for painting
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery using rags, brushes and grease gun
  • Inspects equipment, tools and machinery for safety issues
  • Requisitions parts and services
  • Uses test equipment to troubleshoot and diagnose failures
    Building maintenance
  • Paints walls (inside and out), machines, equipment
  • Repairs roof, walls, floors, gutters, windows, doors, plumbing, HVAC
  • Lays out, assembles, installs and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment and repairs and replaces gages, valves, pressure regulators and related equipment
    Mechanical maintenance
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts, following specifications and blueprints, using precision measuring instruments and hand tools
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical failures:presses, equipment, plumbing, all vehicles (except expensive engine overhauls)
  • Repairstowmotor, trucks, cranes, hoists
  • Lays out and assembles new machines and equipment

Physical requirements:

  • Able to work at heights from 30 to 200 feet on ladders and platforms
  • Extensive walking, standing, stooping and bending
  • Lifting:heavy (50 lbs without asstance); arm and back extension
  • High level of manual dexterity
