Solid Biosciences has an exciting opportunity for a proactive and hard-working Assistant Controller to play a key role in our fast-paced Finance team. As a critical member of our Accounting and Finance team, you will be responsible for providing leadership in the accounting function including developing accounting policies and procedures and overseeing the financial statement close process in areas not limited to the General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable, and Payroll, while ensuring accurate and effective processing and efficient execution.
Key Duties & Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for driving the monthly and quarterly close process
  • Analyze and provide commentary on the balance sheet and income statement variances
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly and ad-hoc reporting for senior management
  • Review reconciliations and journal entries as part of the close process
  • Ownership of the company’s R&D accrual process
  • Act as a key point of contact for external auditors and assist with the preparation of workpapers in advance of audits
  • Review, recommend, and implement best practices regarding accounting policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with other finance team members to identify ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the day to day operations as well as the close process, and assist with the implementation of such recommendations
  • Responsible for accurate and timely preparation of external financial statements including the Company's filing of various SEC documents such as Form 10-K, 10-Q
  • Mentor and provide leadership to direct reports
  • Perform other related duties and ad hoc projects as required by position

Education, Experience & Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • CPA required· 5+ years of experience in Accounting
  • 3+ years of experience in biotech/pharma industry required
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP
  • Experience closing the books with a private or publicly traded company in the life sciences industry
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with Net Suite and Concur preferred
  • No travel required
