2nd Shift Production Worker

We are currently looking for 2nd shift production workers for New Dimension Metals Corp. Springboro, OH location.
Job Description: Production
Accountable To: Plant Manager, Plant Supervisor
Responsive To:   Operations Manager
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Follows company related Safety Rules and Policies
  • Operate a forklift and/or overhead crane safely.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of overhead crane, straightener, feed table and conveyor, eddy current tester and demag unit, exit conveyor and exit table.
  • Understands we have an ISO  9001 Registered Quality Management System and our Company Quality Policy is “Quality is the Critical Dimension”
  • Start, stop, and maintain work output required on production equipment/machines
  • Responsible for performing or assisting maintenance with Corrective or Preventive Maintenance repairs or tasks
  • Use and read a calibrated micrometer to verify the final cold drawn and straightened bar diameter out of the straightener 
  • Responsible for informing his supervisor and correcting the following condition if straightened bars are mechanically surface damaged from pitted rolls (undersize spots), roll build up, worn or damaged guide, poor roll angle set up.
  • Authorized and Responsible for keeping the straightener loaded with the proper size, steel grade, and heat number of materials for each order.  Constantly need to check and verify the heat number against the Production Schedule
  • Responsible for keeping the required amount of rolling oil in the oil tank system. Responsible for removing dirty rolling oil and replacing with clean rolling oil to improve roll life, rust preventative protection on the bar surface and present a clean bar product to our customers so it does not contaminate their machine coolant with dirty oil
  • Responsible for selecting the proper top and bottom roll angles and roll pressure to straighten the full-length bar and ensure 100% of the finished diameter is within the Production Schedule size tolerance after straightening. Bars cannot be crooked, have hooked ends, or wobble as bar is visually checked for straightness on a flat surface
  • Responsible for selecting the correct size straightener guide and guide height
  • Responsible for maintaining the inventory of correct size straightener guides, discard worn out or damaged guides, re-grind slightly worn and/or re-usable straightener guides, notifying your immediate supervisor to purchase new replacement guides.
  • Responsible for maintaining housekeeping in the work area.
  • Responsible for removing and placing discarded metal into the scrap reclamation bins for recycling
  • Responsible for rejecting nonconforming material
  • Responsible for informing supervisor to schedule machine downtime as necessary to ensure the proper operation of the straightener, such as the feed conveyor, bar un-scrabbling table and lift off arms, hydraulics, rolls, guide holder, exit table and conveyors.
  • Responsible for informing his supervisor when preventative maintenance is needed or past due items.
  • Responsible for checking the Production Schedule for proper bundle weights and packaging requirements.
  • Other Duties as assigned
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Consistent Work History 
  • Must be able to use a micrometer, caliper, tape measure, and do simple math
  • High School Diploma Preferred
  • 6+ Months manufacturing (steel industry preferred)
  • Must be able to work in either plant Moraine or Springboro based on business needs.
  • Must have reliable transportation to either location.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able work with coiled steel or rolled bars continuously as needed
  • Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours continuously
  • Must be able to operate/withstand seasonal hot and cold temperatures
  • Must be able to work with oil, lubricants, and other liquids
  • Must be able to push, pull, walk, stand, climb, kneel, and bend as needed
  • Must be able to wear protective hearing, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
