Data Architect

Do you enjoy working with data, building data architectures and managing data solutions?  Do you value working with big data, data science and analytics?   Are you interested in the future of retail, commerce and analytics?  If so, then this is the role for you.   As the technical data lead on exciting and groundbreaking initiatives, you will be directly involved in designing, building and managing database-driven analytical solutions that are critical to business success.   You will have a unique opportunity to work with innovative products and solutions that enable analytical insights from key marketing, product, and business performance metrics and related data.  You will have the opportunity to lead in the delivery of solution databases, transformations, data movement, storage and data science.  You will be able to create tangible value by designing and delivering the data structures for today’s business problem and data science and big data solutions for tomorrow’s opportunities.

In this role you will be designing and building enterprise conceptual, logical, and physical data models; creating data models that conform to existing standards and conventions; providing leadership and guidance with enterprise data strategies; revising data dictionary definitions, governance practices, and standards; establishing data quality standards; managing data flow performance; and partnering with security architects to ensure compliance with data security and privacy mandates.    You will manage and maintain data storage, data flows and related data quality efforts.   You will help ensure effective performance of data transformation and movement related to real-time and near-time data transfer activity. 

Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide leadership and guidance on enterprise data architecture tools, technologies, methods and practices.
  • Design and build enterprise data architecture to support products, marketing and data science.
  • Design, build and manage transactional, operational and analytical database models and data interfaces.
  • Design, build and manage ETL and data transformations to support analytical and operational reporting.
  • Build robust data and reporting database environments to load, store, analyze, and manipulate data.
  • Manage the day-to-day data processing, data movement, transformation and reporting operations.
  • Manage and support production reporting, data delivery and service level agreements
  • Keep-up-to-date with emerging data technologies, methods and practices.
  • Collect requirements analysis, platform selection, technical architecture design, application design and development consulting, testing, and deployment for projects requiring large scale data architectures.
  • Connect disparate operational data sources to internal data sources.
  • Manage and integrate structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Work with real-time and near-real-time data feeds and methodologies.
  • Establish and maintain data quality standards, process and procedures.
  • Collaborate and partner with team members on projects and solutions.
  • Engage with third-party vendors and other groups as required.
  • Conduct data exchange and integration with partners and vendors.
  • Organize, present and communicate results effectively.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering and/or Mathematics required.  (Master’s Degree is a plus.)
  • Minimum 5 yrs. experience in data architecture --- designing, testing, deploying, and managing scalable reference data architectures for use by cross functional teams.
  • Minimum 5 yrs. experience with designing and building operational and analytical data models.
  • Demonstrated successful experience with designing and deploying big data concepts and technologies required.
  • Hands on experience with streaming data architectures and message queues is required.
  • Strong experience with ETL design, development and management is required.
  • Experience with SQL and complex query writing is required.
  • Experience and understanding of big data technologies including Hadoop, MapReduce, etc…
  • Experience working with Postgres, Timescale DB and/or other related database technologies is required.
  • Experience with result-set performance tuning and related data administration is required.
  • Experience with data security and privacy methodologies is required.
  • Experience with data quality management and administration is required.
  • Experience with ftp, sftp, file transfers, data exchange methodologies is required.
  • Experience and understanding of various statistical modeling tools and platforms -- including R, SAS and SPSS -- is required.
  • Experience with R and Python is beneficial.
  • Experience in ecommerce, wifi, app messaging, social and other datasets is beneficial.
  • Experience with kafka, Go or Redis is beneficial.
  • Experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence methods and practice is beneficial. 
  • Understanding and experience with database technologies is beneficial including Oracle, SQLServer, etc..
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.
  • Understanding and experience with BI technologies is beneficial:  Tableau, Microstrategy, Microsoft, OBI, etc..
  • A solid understanding of methodology, data and systems from a broad range of research and analytics providers, including emerging tools and methods.
  • Ability to distill complex statistical concepts and methodology, and articulate insights to cross-functional teams and clients with varying levels of knowledge in this space.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.
  • Great teamwork skills and the ability to partner with data science/analytics/software team members to ensure efficient data ingestion and extraction methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical design documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, results-oriented work environment.
  • Dynamic personality and passion for data and analytics is very important for this role.
  • Ability to handle and adjust to change in requirements and direction.
  • Positive attitude, attention to detail and great problem solving skills are important.
