Summary of Responsibilities
 
Al. Neyer is poised to make 2019 the most profitable year in its 125-year history as we continue to build pride in real estate across the communities we call home.  We are looking for an organized and driven Staff Accountant to join our growing team.  The Staff Accountant will work closely with internal team members to handle day-to-day accounting functions necessary to support a fast-paced company.  The accounting and finance team is specifically looking to improve our systems to be scalable and sustainable, which requires our team to be focused on process improvements and innovation while balancing accurate and timely financial reporting. 
 
Essential Job Functions
 
  • Record monthly accounting journal entries and maintain general ledger for related party stand-alone properties and investment entities in accordance with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Review monthly accounting records received from third party property managers for accuracy and completeness; record net monthly activity into accounting software; work with asset manager and/or property manager to resolve reporting issues.  
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for assigned entities.
  • Prepare month end financial statements and analysis for assigned entities, including preparing consolidating financial statements where required.
  • Maintain fixed asset additions and disposals schedule for Al. Neyer, record activity and take ownership of other assigned functional areas.
  • Prepare year-end tax packages used by independent accounting firms to generate tax returns for our various related party entities.  
  • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules for Al. Neyer and other related party entities. 
  • Initiate wire payments on online banking for online approval by Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller or CFO.
  • Backup position for accounts payable processing and cutting checks for main operating company and various related party entities.
  • Assist Controller with gathering items requested by our insurance brokers for renewal and coverage for new properties and maintaining insurance certificate files.
  • Special projects, as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills; communicate professionally with our internal customers at Al. Neyer, as well as external bankers, auditors, tax accountants, and insurance professionals.
  • Experienced in problem solving with ability to recognize issues and deal with them directly.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops/webinars, reading professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional organizational.
Qualifications and Experience
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college and prefer two years of accounting experience in public accounting or industry.  Real estate industry knowledge is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with Spectrum is a plus, but not required.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook.
 
Physical Demands
 
Low physical effort required to sit, stand at files, bend, stoop, lift, and walk.  Maximum unassisted lift is 35 lbs.  Average lift is less than 10 lbs.  Requires ability to use a keyboard and monitor.  Also requires the ability to communicate verbally, both in person and on the telephone.  May require some travel by car.
 
Environmental Requirements
 
Average inside office environment.  Average office noise levels.  No personal protective equipment is required.  Ambient temperature is between 68F and 76F.
