HR & Safety Manager
 
Position Description:
 
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and company policies. Investigate safety incidents and accidents. Determine trends and create appropriate methods to prevent future incidents and accidents. Promote a safety culture by providing ongoing education and encouragement to the operations teams and drivers to complete all job tasks with a safety mindset.  Also, responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level in some or all the following functional areas: employee relations, training, employment, benefits management, and recruiting and onboarding.
 
Essential Job Functions:
  • Manage and analyze multiple programs and reports to determine individuals that need additional coaching in safe driving procedures. Provide necessary retraining and/or corrective action.
  • Conduct all necessary live safety meetings, safety conference calls, accident and driver safety reviews, continuous training, retraining, driving and skills evaluations and other corrective measures. Create or implement various training materials as needed to effectively accomplish training goals.
  • Promptly respond to accidents. Conduct driver interview to aid in investigation of root cause. Determine necessary coaching and retraining needed based on investigation. Coordinate with operations to route driver in for accident review and evaluation in a timely manner.

  • Actively engage drivers through interaction in the field, onsite visits to customer locations to inspect what we expect. Provide appropriate positive feedback or additional coaching based on observations.
  • Actively engage operations teams to promote the safety culture and review fleet trends through education and safety meetings
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Identifies HR-related training needs for business unit employees.
  • Monitors employee eligibility for benefits plans. Reviews benefits with employees and processes enrollment, cancellation or changes. Organizes and manages annual open enrollment communications and election process.
  • Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.
 
Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety/Human Resources or related field.
  • 2 years experience in Safety and/or HR or related field.
 
Required Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft, Word, Excel Outlook
  • Basic computer skills
  • Able to handle conflict and high pressure situations in a calm manner
  • Able to present safety material in an engaging manner
  • FMCSA knowledge
  • English and Spanish languages.
