Tool & Die Helper - 2nd Shift

The Superior Die, Tool & Machine Company currently has opportunities for Tool & Die Helpers on our Night (2nd) Shift.  These positions will work as a helper under our experienced Tool & Die Makers.  (10% Shift Differential for Night Shift)

Responsibilities will include:
  • Lifting and position die components on a bench for ‘detail’ work.
  • Steam cleaning dies.
  • While studying blue prints, die models and / or prototype parts, compare dies with die components to ascertain contours.
  • Performs basic set-up and operations of various machine shop equipment (Mills, drill presses, grinders and lathes)
  • Verifies dimensions and radii
  • Work from simple isometric drawings and instructions
  • Spotting – brushing spotting blue on upper or lower surfaced of rough milled die component and grinding with powered hand grinder until blue spots are gone.
  • Inspects smoothness and contour conformity visually and tactually
  • Supports buyoff or approval of part
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

This position is a great opportunity for candidates with mechanical inclination who are interested in learning the Tool & Die trade.  Ideally, candidates will have had some kind of ‘trade’ school training or experience with ‘mechanically’ related fields such as automotive mechanics or machining trades.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong analytical and machine shop mathematical skills
  • Ability to read “CAD Drawings" or blueprint reading
  • Some welding experience would bonus (MIG / TIG / ARC or Stick)

Working Hours:

Candidates must be willing and able to work according to the needs of the business which can include 6-days to 7-days a week with shifts ranging from 8-hour to 12-hour shifts.  Our Tool & Die department supports our metal-stamping operations and supports ‘emergency assist’ tool & die work for automotive / appliance customer base.  Flexibility is a must as schedules can be unpredictable.

Physical Demands / Essential Functions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.  Lifting requirements will include the ability to lift and move up to 70-lbs.
