Abrasive Technology currently has an opening for an energetic professional to join our Engineering team.
The Design/Manufacturing Engineer quotes and designs super-abrasive grinding wheels and related tooling. The position is also responsible for specifying and developing operational sequences and manufacturing methods, designing and/or procuring required tooling and fixturing, and providing technical support for all manufacturing functions. This position is located at our Elgin, IL facility.
Essential Functions
  • Quote generation for new product.
  • Design of new super-abrasive product as well as update and improvement of previous designs.
  • Develops, prepares and maintains manufacturing process routings.
  • Implements and maintains work standards, including engineering and estimation of set-up and run times for all manufacturing processes.
  • Develops, implements and maintains engineering procedures.
  • Improves manufacturing processes to provide most economical means of production.
  • Provides technical support for plant layout, purchase and upgrade of equipment and feasibility studies.
  • Manage costs and time constraints.
  • Identify, implement and share best practices.
  • Ability to use engineering tools and principles to create a hands-on process solution.
  • Collaborate in a hands-on environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a diverse / collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability and desire to listen, are a must.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills in identifying, evaluating and resolving complex and cross-functional issues, including root cause analysis.
  • High degree of agility and adaptability to handle multiple projects and priorities on a continuous basis.
Education / Training Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials or Process Engineering (required)
  • 7 to 10 years of hands-on engineering and manufacturing experience
  • Proficiency in computer aided design applications, preferably SolidWorks or AutoCAD
  • Desire to learn the super-abrasive grinding wheel production process in a hands-on manufacturing floor setting.
