The teacher will be responsible for communicating knowledge to students in an interesting, stimulating and effective manner. He or she will use a variety of instructional methodologies and curriculum resources to present material to students. The teacher will work as a team member, sharing common planning, professional development, curriculum design, and teaching responsibilities. Teachers will administer different forms of student assessments, communicate with parents and other team members about student progress, and plan for further instruction. They will be reflective about their own practice and act as a coach for their team members when necessary. Teachers will work to integrate technology into their teaching and professional activities.
The teacher will:
•Implement school policies and procedures;
•Implement GEMS Education Solutions - Americas Essential Standards for School Excellence;
•Collaborate with House team teachers on curriculum and student needs;
•Work diligently toward establishing strong partnerships with parents and the community through ongoing communication and outreach;
•Contribute to curriculum development, in addition to maintaining fidelity to the GEMS Americans program;
•Integrate technology into the instructional program and demonstrate professional use;
•Serve on at least one building-level committee;
•Act as a support to other teachers on the team in areas of personal expertise; and
•Mentor and support paraeducators and tutors as needed.
•BA, BS degree, and Praxis requirements for subject area
•Qualifying results on PRAXIS exams
•Appropriate teacher or HQT certification
•Successful student teacher, practicum or classroom experience with a qualified rating
•Willingness to work a longer day and participate in professional development before school opening
•Positive recommendations from individuals who know the candidate well
•A coherent, high-quality essay written in response to a question
•Positive ratings by interviewers during the selection process: the principal, the Instructional Coach(es) and other teachers in the school. Interviewers will look for subject area knowledge, ability to work on a team, familiarity with different instructional approaches and philosophies of learning, interest or expertise in technology, enthusiasm for the school design, passion for teaching etc.
•Successful demonstration of teaching techniques and classroom management skills (i.e., creative instructional strategies, articulate communication of information, positive interactions with students, and overall organization of learning environment), as seen during a classroom observation
