Facilities Technician
 
The Facilities Technician reports to the Director of Administration with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Lab Managers.  Under their general direction, this person will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day management of facilities, building systems, facilities vendor management, lab facilities oversight and maintenance and due diligence of lab-related SOPs. 
The Facilities Technician will interface with and support several other key functional areas at Natera such as operations, R&D, EH&S and office administration.
Interfaces
·With Office Manager as requested to assist with space planning, ensuring proper completion of assigned projects or tasks related to cross-functional team efforts such as coordinating ergonomic evaluations and card access and security administration.
·Interfaces with the Laboratory Operations Manager on supporting functions such as overseeing regulated waste and lab coat vendors, asset management, assisting in lab moves, repairs, hook-ups, upgrades and space planning.
·Interfaces with the landlord on building-related matters and repairs, routing MEP maintenance schedule, coordinating service with landlord/vendors janitorial service, securing service bids and arranging contractors as needed with proper approval.
·Interfaces with the EH&S Consultant on support tasks (e.g. routine maintenance of safety equipment such as weekly safety shower testing, monthly fire extinguisher inspections, annual biosafety cabinet and fume hood certifications, weekly hazardous waste inspections and weekly medical waste vendor pickups).
In addition, some cross-training is anticipated for other Lab Operations Manger tasks and for the Shipping/Receiving Department in order to cover for planned and unplanned absences of regular staff
 
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 4-6 years of work experience in Facilities Management or related field. Lab Facilities experience a plus.
  • EH&S Certification
  • Must be flexible, be able to prioritize and plan work tasks, works well under minimal supervision, conduct independent evaluations, and initiate solutions.
  • Requires good verbal and written skills, the ability to effectively work cross-departmentally
  • Must have at minimum a general understanding of occupational safety as it pertains to laboratory settings.
  • Applicable certifications, licenses in some or all of the following: EH&S, HEP, hazardous materials, project management
Education Requirements
  • BA/BS in engineering, facilities management or related field
  • Technical education and hands-on experience in the following disciplines: HVAC design and engineering, electrical design, refrigeration design and operation, R/O water systems.
  • Experience establishing and managing maintenance procedures, predictive, corrective and routine work requires coordination with outside vendors such as electricians, plumbers, HVAC mechanics. Must able to respond to calls and emergency after-hours.
