Lifeguard – West Carrollton YMCA, West Carrollton, OH
YMCA of Greater Dayton
$7.85 - $8.50/Hour
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the YMCA of Greater Dayton, the Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas.
Education and Certifications – Must be at least 16 years of age. High school diploma or GED preferred. Certification requirements include CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and must hold current YMCA Lifeguard certification (or hold a valid Red Cross Lifeguard certification and attend YMCA Crossover within 90 days of employment). Bloodborne Pathogens, New Employee Orientation, and Child Abuse Prevention training is required within first 90 days of employment. Bloodborne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention must be renewed every 12 months.
Experience – Six months or more of related lifesaving experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities – With an understanding of the YMCA organization, persons in this position must be able to display sound judgment and decision making skills. Must possess an understanding of overall pool operations and protocol. Must have excellent lifesaving skills and the ability to perform all lifesaving actions in accordance with training and guidelines in order to perform a satisfactory rescue. Must be observant, safety conscious and be able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency situation. Must have ability to stay alert to potential safety and security problems. Must have excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to relate to people in a positive, but firm manner.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to swim 500 yards without stopping. Must have the ability to retrieve a brick from the bottom of the deep end of the pool.
