Accounting Analyst
FLSA STATUS:  Non-exempt (Hourly)
DEPARTMENT: Business Office
REPORTS TO: Associate Vice President of Finance/Controller
JOB STATUS: Full-time (at least 37.5 hours/week on a regular basis)

PRIMARY PURPOSE/ POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Finance (AVP)/ Controller, the Accounting Analyst is primarily responsible for daily, quarterly, and annual accounting activities of the university, including creating journal and gift entries and completing various reconciliations. This person will be responsible for budget maintenance, which, at a minimal includes setting up new budgets and accounts, and responding to questions related to budgets in a timely manner. This person will back-up various roles, including Accounts Payable, and file various compliance documents. The Accounting Analyst is expected to act professionally and with care, and is expected to offer ideas for process improvements, efficiencies, and resource utilization.

JOB COMPONENTS/PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Maintain budget set up, revisions, and management; work with new budget managers
  • New vendor set up, verification and maintenance; Accounts Payable back-up
  • Journal entry and gift entry; import and verify various entries 
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and presentation
  • Verify external evidence, record, post, and audit various entries
  • Create electronic payments via the bank’s website (wire and ACH) as needed
  • Maintain purchase orders; create, deliver, follow through
  • Maintain compliance reporting, including unclaimed property and Federal Form 990 assistance
  • Assist with managing various balance sheet accounts
  • Reconcile and record various study abroad programs
  • Month, quarter and annual close processes assistance
  • Assist with various audits, reporting, and compliance
  • Manage Business Office internal and external web site, forms, and various office supplies, placing orders as needed.
  • Support the development of accounting policies and procedures
  • Responsible for reviewing procedures on annual basis to ensure relevance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Understanding of accounting principles and internal controls
  • Superior organizational skills with a proven ability to work with numbers and financial data
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Accuracy and timely delivery of assignments with competing deadlines a must
  • Ability to work in an open office environment managing  multiple simultaneous projects and daily transactions
  • Highest level of professionalism and integrity with the ability to handle and manage confidential information
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build strong relationships at all levels with confidence
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with MS Access and Power Point a plus
  • Must provide excellent customer service

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable and progressive accounting experience
  • Previous experience in higher education or not-for-profit industry is desired
  • Experience with Jenzabar system is desired
