Information Technology Student Advisor Positions
 
 
Information Technology is seeking Dominican University students across a variety of technical areas. For all positions, we seek students with strong leadership and communication skills. A student employee should have a keen focus on attention to detail, be creative be comfortable working independently and on a team, as well as taking initiative.  Information Technology student positions hold a high standard of customer service by providing training, accountability and shared responsibilities.  
 
All student employment opportunities require:
  • Following Support Center policies and procedures;
  • Maintaining classroom cleanliness and replenish supplies as needed;
  • Providing general office duties (photocopying, filing, data entry, etc.);
  • Utilizing Support Center tools and applications when troubleshooting with a goal of resolving the client issue during their first contact; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Positions available include:
 
IT Support Center Advisor
Job components, duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing first level support to clients either in person, over the phone or through email;
  • Creating detailed cases with all pertinent information for all client interactions while on duty;
  • Printing University IDs (Star Cards);
  • Issuing printer toners and compete the department chargeback process correctly;
  • Checking out/in keys to IT staff using the key checkout application;
  • Checking out/in equipment from our Equipment Loan Program to the University community using our equipment loan application; and
  • Providing technical training to clients in person and over the phone.
 
IT Academic Services Advisor
Job components, duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist with the set-up, operation, and breakdown of audio/visual equipment for events and classrooms; 
  • Operating and maintaining cameras, audio and video recorders, and other production equipment;
  • Identifying what camera equipment is necessary and verifying equipment; and
  • Collecting b-roll footage of campus as well as interviews.
 
Education and Experience
Applicants must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at Dominican University, preferably in a related field such as Education, Marketing, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Communication or Fine Arts. A major/minor should not be construed as a barrier to application for a student position in Information Technology.
 
Language Ability
Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with students, faculty, and staff both orally and in writing in English is required. Fluency in additional languages is highly desired. Interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff in a wide variety of situations are a must.
 
Reasoning Ability 
The ability to engage and manage the work of multiple projects is mandatory, as well as well as working on a team and independently.
 
Skills
Applicants should be hard working, enthusiastic, responsible and resourceful. Additionally, applicants should have several of the following soft and technical skills:
  • Knowledge and experience providing customer service by telephone, online chat or email;
  • Ability to interact with unsatisfied clients and provide escalation when needed;
  • Ability to follow direction and complete a task or assignment within defined expectations;
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
